Port Eynon to Barafundle

Absolutely perfect conditions as I set off from Port Eynon. I set off before HW as I wanted to arrive at the Worms Head for slack water & give myself a chance of getting through the causeway without too much drama.

I hadn't left early enough & the tide was ebbing as I approached the Island.

I really wanted to go through the causeway but the breaking waves I could see in the distance were making me nervous.

I went for it anyway as I figured I could cut horizontally into the waves & make my way to the tip of the Island.

Turns out they were breaking on some shallow rocks & were easy to avoid.

Leaving the worms head I could just see Temby if I followed the bearing with my eyes & looked really hard.

The GPS showed 15 nautical miles, (17.2 Statute) & I nervously push on, this is a big commitment.

Not long after leaving the Worms Head I was again treated to a fly past from some Manx Shearwaters. One came so close he had to lift his wing to avoid hitting my bow. Turned out this was to become a feature of the day & the trip in general.

A later fly past some 7 miles shy of caldy Island & I was given a double treat as a school of Dolphins decided to join the Shearwaters & a Gannet also, (I was grinning from ear to ear).

I decided to land on caldy, not only for a well needed rest but also to bag another Island. As you can see from the images it really is an enchanting place & I'm so going back there soon.

Leaving the Island I was again treated to some fab wildlife, Razorbills, Guillemots & evan a Puffin or two. Still haven't spotted a Seal though, Where are they all?

From Caldey I make my way along the coast to Barafundle, my camp for the night. After the long open crossing I'm delighting in the fabulous scenery despite my tired body.

I set camp, make a well earned cup of coffee & chill out with some nakey sunbathing (LOL).
