Aberthaw to Tusker Rock 05/12/10

Sunrise at Aberthaw & me & Stuart are ready to head off. No plans as such, just going to follow the tide west & see where it takes us...

Heading west & I'm looking forward to reaching the race at Nash Point...
Stuarts contemplating his Lotto numbers...

A quick break at Nash point & a look to see if the sandbank was uncovered which it wasn't so we headed off to Southerndown instead...

Lovely & calm along this stretch of coast. We could just see Tusker Rock near Porthcawl in the distance & decided to head there. This is turning into quite an adventure...

Tusker Rock is only exposed at low tide & is covered in shipwrecks, I skimmed over one on the way into land. We stopped for lunch here before heading back to Aberthaw...

A Bit bumpier on the way back which had us wondering what the race at Nash Point was going to be like...
Wasn't bad after all but we did hit 9 knots at one point & shot past the Nash buoy quite fast. In fact I was struggling to get my camera to focus & nearly hit the buoy (LOL)...
Stuart enjoying the fast water...

A well earned rest at Saint Donats...
Nearly there & dreaming of coffee & biscuits not to mention getting out of my kayak (Knackered)...

We left at sunrise & got back not long before sunset, I was sat on the beach with a cup of tea whilst taking these pics...

Our route, about 22 Nautical miles (25 Statute Miles). My longest trip so far, can't wait for the next one...
Check out Stuarts blog for his take on the trip http://seakayaking-stuart.blogspot.com/...
