So there I was, reluctantly easing myself out of out of bed on Monday morning with nothing to do. I had a few days free from work and an idea struck me, an idea I liked. I hastily packed for a bivi camp on the Maddalena Islands :)
All adventures have to start somewhere and mine started here in the busy port of Palau.
After a little over an hour of open sea though never really that far from land I reached the stunningly beautiful island of Spargi.
I pull up onto a little beach I know where there's some peace from the multitude of pleasure craft and have a well earned rest before continuing on to the first of three new islands for me, Budelli.
After a thirty minute crossing in force 4-5 sea's I reach the island of Budelli and it's beautiful sheltered coves.
After Budelli things got harder. The wind was strong as I paddled around Isola Santa Maria and I had a good force 4-5 headwind to reach a campspot on Isola di Razzoli. Not the prettiest beach but it was nice and sheltered and the seagrass would act as a camping mat being as I'd left mine at home!
This was the view from above my camp :)
Morning comes and the winds have gone leaving beautifully calm sea's.
I make my way around Razzoli, continuing with my intention to loop around the three outermost islands of the Maddalena's. The mountains you can see in the far distance is Corsica.
A very battered lighthouse on the northern tip of Razzoli. I'm just four miles from the first of the Corsican islands at this point. I'll be doing that crossing soon!
An hour or so later I reach the Elephant Seal's of Isola Spargi.
Pose for a selfy :)
And have a very long and well earned rest before paddling back to Palau.
