Holm Alone...

A gorgeous start to a very calm day. Penarth Pier, in the sunshine, I think I'm gonna enjoy this...
Eerily still out in the channel on my way to Flat Holm...
Whoops, despite the calm weather the spring tide is still ripping really fast & I overshoot Flat Holm & have to paddle hard to make the Island. My angle of approach is more what I'd expect if I'd travelled from Sully, not Penarth...
Another foot of water & I'd of got through, next time I guess...

I had to paddle the long way around the Island to get here as I couldn't push through the rip to reach the slipway no matter how hard I paddled. The rip was making 4-5 knots but I had a go, grinning like an idiot at my futile attempt...

I Spent a good hour just chilling & wondering along the shore & exploring the caves, Bliss...

Amazingly I was able to make Lavernock at slack water, a little longer than I needed to paddle but I fancied seeing if it was possible for future trips...
Back at Penarth It was apparent that I'd forgotten about the mud at low tide, oh well, at least I got my wellies on...

  1. Fantastic day for it! wish I sould have joined you, lets hope it's like that Saturday. Brilliant pictures, water evaporating off slipway is cool so is that boulder.

  2. Looked a great trip with great photos. Have driven home along the Cardiff foreshore all this week really wanted to get out there, lucky you. Wonder if it will last for the weekend.
